Behaviour/Relational Approach

At Rocklands School, we believe that positive behaviour is the foundation of a culture that is safe and respectful resulting a successful learning environment. Our behaviour policy is built on the principles of mutual respect, responsibility, and resilience, ensuring every child feels valued and supported to reach their full potential.

The most effective tool within Rocklands School for dealing with behaviours of distress is the development of effective relationships with the pupils based on knowledge and understanding of their basic emotional, communication and social needs. In fostering meaningful relationships with the wide community, we recognise the importance of establishing effective communication links including home-school liaison and liaison with outside agencies.

‘The ability to form meaningful relationships is fundamental to mental health and happiness. It’s the quality of contact we have with other people that is arguably the most important determining factor in our quality of life. We can only truly develop ourselves through relationships with others’’ (TISUK 2019)

We promote high expectations for conduct through clear routines, consistent boundaries, positive behaviour support and a culture of kindness. Our staff work in partnership with families to nurture positive attitudes and encourage pupils to make thoughtful choices. When challenges arise, we focus on restorative approaches that help children learn from mistakes and grow as individuals.

By fostering a community where everyone feels respected and included, we empower our children to thrive academically and socially.
