Intent – Belong, Believe, Become
At Rocklands, we are committed to delivering a curriculum that is designed to meet the individual needs of all of our children by taking a holistic approach designed through collaborative practice with all stake holders and wider professionals.
Rocklands offers a bespoke and engaging curriculum, with a total communication approach, which builds on the needs and interests of our children. By putting children at the centre of our delivery, learning becomes meaningful to maximise engagement.
Our aim is to enrich every child’s school experience by creating an inclusive environment that is rigorous and rooted in research-based approaches. We recognise children’s Education, Health and Care Plans, prior learning and experiences and provide practical/multi-sensory experiences to build resilience so that children can achieve based on individual starting points. The curriculum has been planned and sequenced so that knowledge and skills can be built upon prior learning.
We are driven by the need to prepare our children for adulthood ensuring children can develop and thrive. It is imperative to us that pupils are ready for the challenges they will face in their futures so that they can be the best version of themselves. We strive to deliver broad and varied learning experiences through our wider curriculum offer that supports the development of functional skills, independence and personal, social and emotional development. We place importance on developing the whole child and recognise and understand the effect that good mental health and well-being have on our pupils’ abilities to make good progress.
Curriculum Impact
The impact of our curriculum is evidenced through:
- Development of communication and interaction skills, measured through qualitative and quantitative data.
- Progress tracked against individualised SMART targets taken from EHCP outcomes.
- Individualised progress and achievement are tracked against outcomes using our bespoke assessment framework on Tapestry.
- Increased engagement and participation in learning activities.
- Improved self-regulation and independence, enabling learners to access wider opportunities, preparing them for life after Rocklands and beyond into adulthood.
- Reduced behavioural statistics.
- Clear collaboration with other professionals ensures pupils receive a holistic approach, ensuring their needs are met cognitively, physically, socially, emotionally, and therapeutically.
Our bespoke assessment framework allows us to celebrate every achievement, however small, and ensures that progress is visible, meaningful, and aligned with each learner’s potential and aspirations. It supports staff in identifying next steps and adapting provision swiftly, ensuring that every pupil’s ‘belongs, learns and grows.’
