Phonics

All Aboard Phonics (AAP)

All Aboard Phonics (AAP) is a DfE-validated programme that uses a special teaching tool called trainer text. Trainer text helps children practice decoding, using visual cues for phonetic sounds as training wheels for progress, until they no longer need them.

All Aboard Phonics is a perfect systematic synthetic phonics package for specials schools because it teaches reading in a visual way. This makes it ideal for neurodivergent learners whose brains need additional visual scaffolding to grasp abstract auditory concepts. While cartoon-based, the pictophones are not babyish, so they work for students aged 4-11.
All Aboard Phonics provides a self-paced curriculum with daily lesson plans for Phase 1 through Phase 6. These can be spread out over multiple years with children of varying ability level.

There are multiple sets of wordless, decodable, and trainer text-supported books give pupils space to build fluency in controlled text. The books also contain comprehension prompts to draw out both basic understanding and social emotional learning cues, books contain a large percentage of non-fiction, which makes them especially appropriate for all children.
