History

At Rocklands, children study the past; compare and contrast it to our lives now by placing key events into a chronological order that tell a story.

We support pupils to understand the relationship between one event and another and identify the significance of key people. Personal history is explored with children to support understanding of the past, present future by recalling what has happened and ordering events in which they have happened which is history in its broadest sense to develop children’s short-term memory skills. This will then broaden out to local history – how Lichfield has changed over time – and then onto national and global perspectives using varying pedagogical methods. Pupils are encouraged to develop their historical enquiry skills and to begin to understand that history can be interpreted in different ways by different people.
