Physical Education is a key component of the ‘My Movement’ strand of our curriculum at Rocklands School, alongside:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Outdoor Activity
- Active Learning
- Extra-Curricular Opportunities
Our vision for PE is simple: every child should have the opportunity to develop the physical confidence and competence to enjoy being active. Through engaging lessons, pupils learn fundamental movement skills and take part in a variety of activities designed to enhance physical literacy and promote lifelong fitness.
We aim to improve overall health and wellbeing while nurturing essential life skills. Physical Education goes beyond physical development—it builds character and core values such as:
- Leadership
- Teamwork
- Fair Play
- Good Sportsmanship
- Communication
- Cooperation
- Respect
- Resilience
- Pride in Achievement
Through PE, sporting opportunities, and active experiences, we hope to inspire a lifelong love of movement and a passion for leading healthy, active lives.
Swimming
We take School Swimming seriously. Swimming is not only a key life skill for pupils that allows them to be physically active and enjoy water-based activities, it is also a lifesaving skill. With many lakes, rivers and canals surrounding the area in which we live, it is crucial that pupils know how to stay safe in and around the water.
We are unique in our school setting to be able to offer free school swimming lessons to pupils of all ages. We take pupils swimming throughout the school to either Cannock Leisure Centre or Lichfield Leisure Centre on a rolling programme to take part in their swimming lessons. In addition to these school lessons, we appreciate the support and role parents can play in helping their children gain water confidence and awareness and we also celebrate their achievements through our junior Duke preparing for Adulthood curriculum.
Here is a link to activities you can do at home with your children to prepare them for lessons and gain confidence:
Try at home Swimming Cards
There are also may water safety learning activities that would be useful to look at with your child at home.
It would be great to have a walk near water and discuss these practically with your children.
