Science

Children are naturally curious; therefore, the science curriculum offered at Rocklands nurtures this curiosity allowing children to explore, investigate, question and challenge. Science helps children to consider problems, learn how science works and discover how science relates to the world around us.

At Rocklands Science comes under ‘My World’ as an area of learning. We see Science as the foundations for understanding the world through scientific enquiry and the National Curriculum. All pupils are taught essential aspects, knowledge, skills, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, which are carefully sequenced, pupils should be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. Children are encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.
